Alternative Complimentary Medicine | Treatment Of Diabetes Using Alternative Medicine
on August 5th, 2010 at 12:19 amDiabetes is a metabolic disorder in which sugar and starch are not properly absorbed in the blood and has conventional medicine for its control. But many repose their faith in alternate or complementary medicine for better results.
Complementary medicine is practiced alongside mainstream medicine for treatment. On the other hand, alternate medicine is practiced instead of mainstream medicine for treatment.
In cases of patients with diabetes, it becomes mandatory to keep the doctor in picture of the type of treatment one wishes to use along with mainstream medicine. Harmful effects of the alternate / complimentary medicine can then be averted.
Some forms of alternate/complimentary medicine recommended for diabetics include:
|
*Guided Imagery: This is a technique that helps to relax the body and mind. Here peaceful images are used to make one aware of pain, and bring out the ability of the body to deal with it.
*Acupuncture: This involves inserting needles at certain points in the body to get the body to release natural painkillers to lessen the pain.
*Magnesium: This is a mineral which controls sugar levels in the body. It is seen that diabetics have lower levels of magnesium. This could suggest that by supplementing magnesium one can control diabetes also.
*Ginseng: American Ginseng is believed to have the ability to reduce glucose levels. Ginseng is available in many varieties and strengths. It has not been established as to what strength and amount would have therapeutic effects. Hence this has not been established as cure for diabetes.
Whatever be the form of treatment, alternate or complimentary, one has to consult the doctor before indulging in these treatments because diabetes is a life threatening and serious medical condition.
