Holistic Health | Peoria Business Aims To Connect People With Holistic Services
on November 17th, 2010 at 1:07 amWhen Gary Chatham moved back to his native Peoria from California a year ago, he searched for a chiropractor who offered a specific, relatively uncommon, treatment for pain – sacral occipital technique, or SOT.
He couldn’t quickly find one.
“It got me thinking that it might be a good idea to put together a directory that could connect people with the kind of holistic health services they were looking for,” Chatham said. “So we created a website and put together a directory.”
Chatham’s search was the origin of more than one holistic health and green-themed ventures new to central Illinois. In the last year, Chatham and business partner Amanda Beadles have created a new business called Marketing Intuition (“Serving holistic, green and small businesses with effective marketing strategies,” reads the business card), a website (holisticpeoria.com) and a social networking and discussion group for like-minded individuals (Peoria Light Tribe).

“What ties it all together is looking for ways to serve the body, mind and spirit,” Chatham said. “And we’ve found that we’re filling a need here in the community. These are all ideas that have moved into the mainstream.”
Holisticpeoria.com is a web portal for resources and information on healthy, balanced living in central Illinois. Viewers will find local holistic health practitioners, green and small businesses that promote balanced living and eco-friendly products and services. The site posts articles on health, wellness and green living that are
“The directory is the most viewed section of the site,” Chatham said.
Beadles became interested in alternative health issues because of a personal experience.
“I had a health crisis and was being told that my treatment would be to have my gall bladder cut out of me,” she said. “I felt intuitively that it was not the right thing for me to do and sought out options. I ended up treating the illness with herbs and diet and while it took longer, it ultimately made me well. That started me wondering what else is out there
