Jennifer Landers of Macomb Township used the tools she learned through a “Manifest” or vision board workshop at Henry Ford Macomb to help create a new life. Since taking the workshop about three years ago, she’s been blessed with two healthy children, Olivia, 2, and Zachary, almost 1.
Workshop participants learn to manifest their dreams and goals by using words, pictures and poster board to encourage positive thinking and daily focus.
Mary Weber of Macomb Township used those same tools to “manifest” good health; she’s taken numerous steps to protect herself from breast cancer and heart disease, both of which run in her family.
Instructor Kaye McAuley used these same tools to ramp up complementary wellness services at Henry Ford Macomb.
“(Manifesting) opened the pathway to allow Reiki (an alternative healing method) to be used in the hospital,” said McAuley, who leads the next Manifest session Aug. 20 at Henry Ford Macomb’s new Wellness Retreat Center at the Shelby Macomb Medical Mall. “Doors were always opening.”
Reiki practitioners use their hands to channel Reiki energy in a patient to curb chronic pain, lift mental outlook and promote creativity and overall healing.
Interested patients receive one complimentary 20-minute Reiki session; additional sessions are available for a fee.
“Reiki is just so badly needed in the hospital setting,” McAuley said. “That’s what inspired me to learn about manifesting.
Her first vision board featured a picture of herself happy and content, the way she would feel after the program was implemented, McAuley recalled. “The goal was stated in the positive — as if it had already accomplished ‘Reiki is used in the hospital.’ ‘I am teaching Reiki to people.’ ‘Patients are benefiting from Reiki.’”
McAuley did not entertain any thoughts of how “difficult” it would be to “manifest” this particular goal. And it was not.
“We have to be guarders of our own thoughts,” McAuley explained. “Negative thoughts have energy and are amplified. If we’re thinking negative thoughts, guess what? That’s what shows up in our lives.”
In addition, thoughts associated with strong emotions are also more likely to manifest, she added.
At the same time, approximately 90 percent of our thoughts are repetitive; one way to beat the negative thought/repetitive thought conundrum is to ask or “pray” for new thoughts, McAuley said.
